1. Conduct a search online for free via our TESS (Trademark Electronic Search System definition) database. 2. If the mark includes a design element, you need to search it by using the design codes To locate the proper design code(s), consult the Design Search Code Manual . 3. If your search yields a mark that you think might conflict with your mark, you should check its status via our TARR (Trademark Applications and Registrations Retrievaldefinition) database. You will need the serial number or registration number of a particular mark to access information on TARR.

New percent option to refine DGENE, USGENE and PCTGEN sequence search

Enhanced capabilities for refining BLAST and FASTA (GETSIM) sequence search answer sets by percent (%) have been implemented in DGENE, USGENE and PCTGEN on STN. A new option of specifying a minimum percentage value is now available as a user-defined cut-off point in gathering a BLAST or GETSIM sequence search results set on STN. The improved command line user interaction provides greater flexibility in handling answer sets, and is available for all BLAST and GETSIM search options, including BATCH and ALERT searches, in all three patent sequence databases. New Series Codes for Utility/Plant and Provisional Applications

According to the USPTO website , there are new series codes for utility/plant and provisional application serial numbers. The new codes are "12" for utility/plant applications and "61" for provisional applications. The first applications of 2008 were 12/5,841 and 61/9,389, so the new series must have been implemented in December 2007.

Esp@cenet Improvements in 2008

Esp@cenet plans to major improvement planned for 2008. They are: 1. Increase in the number of documents that can be stored in the "My Patents" list. 2. Relaxation in the page limit for PDF documents downloaded from esp@cenet. 3. Full-text searches for patent documents in English, French, and German. 4. Single search field accepting multiple search criteria. 5. Highlighting of search terms. 6. Exportable hit lists. 7. Date range searches. All of these will be appreciated by patent searchers, but especially the ability to create sophisticated searches in a single search field, export lists and conduct date range searches. For US and WO patents, searchers can use alternate sites such as Patent Lens, pat2pdf and PatentScope to download lengthy patents.
