Patent Mining and Analytical approaches and their impact on the outcome of statistical patent analysis

Many patent analysis are performed on the basis of US data, as the US market is the most important technology market in the world. Therefore substantial changes in the technological activities in the US, such as the end of the new economy boom, have aconsiderable worldwide impact (Legler et al. 2008). A further reason for the frequent reference to US patents traces back to the fact that the first electronic patent data bases were available for US patents (see e.g. Campell and Nieves 1979 or Carpenter et al. 1980), so there is a well-established tradition of patent analysis of US data. Patent analysis should be made with reference to the first years of application, i.e., priority years, to achieve an appropriate link to other innovation indicators. In any case, it is important for patent analyses that the first priority year is used as timereference and that only pre-grant publications are considered. By including grants without pre-publication the analysed samples can be increased, but

Derwent Class Codes

Derwent categorizes patent documents using a simple classification system for all technologies. This unique classification is consistently applied to all patents by Derwent's subject experts, enabling effective and precise searching in a particular area of technology. Patents are divided into the following three broad areas in the database. Chemical Sections (A - M) Engineering Sections (P - Q) Electrical and Electronic Sections (S - X) They are subsequently divided into 20 broad subject areas or sections. These are designated A-M (Chemical), P-Q (Engineering), and S-X (Electrical and Electronic). More

Israel Patent Office Database

The Patent Office database contains updated information on Israeli patent applications and allows searches according to various criteria. For non- published applications, access is possible only to bibliographic data due to security considerations. Complete documentation is available for all accepted applications. Bibliographic data only is available for applications which have not yet been accepted The database currently includes abstracts for all accepted applications for the years 1970 -2000 In addition to printing individual patents, it is also possible to print numerous documents or extracts from the Patent Registry The search options include Advanced Search and Quick Search .

Lifespan of German Utility Model

The German utility model is called as Gebrauchsmuster (GebrM) is a patent-like, intellectual property right protecting inventions. The Gebrauchsmuster is slightly different from the patent. It mainly differs from the patent in that processes and methods cannot be protected by a Gebrauchsmuster, only products can. Furthermore, the term of a Gebrauchsmuster, that is its maximal life time, is 10 years from the date of registration. In contrast, a patent has usually a term of 20 years from the date of filing of the application. Utility model protection shall be for a term of three years, as from the day following the filing of the application. The term of protection may be initially renewed for a further three years on payment of a fee as prescribed by the schedule of fees, and then for a further two years each time to ten years at the most . The German Gebrauchsmuster is regulated by German Gebrauchsmuster Act (in German: Gebrauchsmustergesetz) and German Gebrauchsmuster Ordinance (in G
